ABR Alternate Pathway to Certification

We offer a 4-year program to radiology board certification for international medical graduates in conjunction with the ABR ( American Board of Radiology) through the Alternate Pathway. We are looking for talented radiologists who are outstanding clinicians, teachers, and researchers to join our department, provide excellent care to our patients, and enrich the working and educational environment for our faculty, fellows, residents, and students.

Our department sponsors international medical graduates in the ABR eligibility requirement to "complete the four-year plan in one ACGME-accredited diagnostic radiology residency program." After completion, trainees are eligible to take the ABR Certifying Exam. The ABR certifies trainees in Diagnostic Radiology after passing the Core Exam and the Certifying exam.

More details of the ABR Alternate Pathway are listed on the ABR website .

Our program

At OHSU, the required training for Alternate Pathway can be accomplished by combining year-long fellowships in one or more of the following sections: body imaging, cardiothoracic imaging, neuroradiology, musculoskeletal imaging, nuclear medicine, emergency imaging, and pediatric radiology. You may express preferences for the combination of years of radiology training, and we will attempt to offer a four-year pathway that meets this as much as possible. However, our training positions are limited, and you may be offered a four-year pathway different from your initial request. As is standard for positions at OHSU, the contract renewal is year-to-year and dependent on satisfactory performance. The candidate’s clinical competency and professionalism must meet the standards of the department to continue training at the OHSU. We expect all of our Alternate Pathway candidates to be able to function at the level of a fellow in any of the aforementioned sections.
